2010: I Helenice (záplevák)

While the Greek Helios was truly magnificent foundation names for the sun-loving genus I Helenice, Czech fiddling with them somewhat less poetically. Name záplevák not Peren for such a format not correct calling card. It is not even true, because it certainly is not some forgotten worthy Bejli. No weeds it just is not, quite the contrary. It's magical messenger of beautiful warm colors of yellow, brick over, orange, red to brownish tones. Painter himself personally for years.

In fact, it Peren in a culture very old, which was imported from North America to Europe in the year 1729 and end 19. Century has been in circulation for several botanical species and their forms. The first American selection arose in early 20. century after 1. World War II was already available in our country. Between the world wars, local nurseries offer at least 16 different species. But the key moment occurred in the Netherlands in 1930, kdy Mia Ruys přichází s 'Moerheim Beauty', cultivar with brick scarlet flower and incredibly long flowering. The actual shift of the order amount, however, meant breeding work, to which the genus Helenium done in Germany Karl Foerster during 40. when 60. let. Followed by years of depression and certain today is getting back into the viewfinder Helenium breeders. North American flora late summer begins generally enjoy great popularity and thus not escape the attention zápleváky. News occur particularly as the old familiar color variations in lower performance. Vedle zmíněné 'Moerheim Beauty', se mezi nejpozoruhodnější řadí dále velkokvětý 'Sahin´s Early Flowerer', žíhaný 'Waltraut' nebo dvoubarevný 'Königstiger'. For many varieties it is common, that changes color dramatically during the flowering.

What is záplevák as plant?

Most varieties are derived from H. autumnale a H. flexuosum. Less common are then H. bigelovii a H.hoopesii. Usually it's a tufted perennials 60 up to 150 cm high, which bloom all summer with dozens of flowers and deploying ever more until autumn. Attract many insects, especially bees, bumblebees and butterflies. As the plant is very long-lived.

Where is he doing?

Záplevák requires a sunny location though satisfactorily withstand even a thin shadow. Generally grow in ordinary garden soil with occasional watering. Can greatly appreciate good nutrition especially in the first year after planting. Summer přísušek may very negative sign extension on growth and consequently the feed of flowers, their size. Mature plants offers zaštípnout part of shoots and prolong the flowering period. We are easily transplanted and also increase for division in early spring or even crash in June when cutting the clump. The disease usually suffer, only the young leaves are infested snails.

Zápleváky well stand tall with other perennials in the beds of summer to autumn flowering. Livened up during the holidays and fits well even to cut. Their height prevents weeds and apply well to engage with the other. Bunches are indeed rozrůstavé and consume in a short time quite a lot of space, but they can handle. Spontaneous seedlings sometimes occur, but it certainly leaves the garden victorious march into the surrounding countryside. If they oppress some species in the area, They can easily reduce clumps of odrytím. The first blooms of early varieties already meet with daylily and continue with třapatkovkami, clematis and zavinutkami until the autumn asters. Thanks nice semeníkům on solid stems with them can be counted for late effect of high grasses.

Záplevák which nezaplevelí. Flower just for fun and summer colors.
